In case you have not heard, Google has just released a new web browser named "Chrome." There are lots of technical info about it on Google's website. A cute PR trick is that they release a web comics book here
http://www.google.com/googlebooks/chrome/ to promote it.
Chrome is billed as a new generation web browser, designed from the group up to run new web stuff: like video, chatting, widgets, etc. The implied message is that Internet Explorer and Firefox were suitable mostly for old web stuff like text-based web pages. Chrome is also open-source.
I tried it for a few hours today. It is notably fast to install, and use much less memory than either Internet Explorer or Firefox on my machine. On my laptop, IE and Firefox usually grab about 150 - 350 mb of RAM, but Chrome typically takes only 30-40mb. Chrome also runs very fast for most web sites.
However, I did notice several problems. Most importantly, Chrome often freezes up on my machine. Since my trial started 3 hours ago, I have had to close and restart Chrome 3 times. Perhaps Google still needs to work out some kinks for this software.
There have been a proliferation of choices for web browsers. Aside from IE, we can now choose from Firefox, Safari, Opera, and now Chrome. Chrome seems most like Opera in my short trial: small, speedy, with a clean interface, but not as steady as Firefox.
