A Free Social Network and Dating Site for Bisexual and Gay Men!

is it just me or is it the real world when some gay men choose to be conservative? i was a naive to think that all gay men would want to be liberal but experience has taught me otherwise. i just want to know, with sincerity and an open, non-judging mind why someone would be a conservative? i would love to hear all answers and personal experiencs, as i want to be a social worker one day, i think staying up to date and looking at different social groups at every angle. does that make sense? anyways, would love to hear from you all!!

Silly man.  Expecting gay men to be liberal is like expecting women to be liberal.  Being liberal or conservative or any variation in between has nothing whatsoever to do with sex or sexuality or preference.

Then again, very few people really understand what political labels mean anymore anyway.  There are online tests that purport to correctly label your political leanings.  I get a laugh at liberal friends who test moderate to conservative and vice versa.

I am an independent moderate with a preference for fiscal conservatism and social liberalness.  I can't stand either Democrats or Republicans.  LOL!  I also find it interesting that most of my moderately conservative friends don't give a damn about my sexual preferences and leave me alone to live my life as I choose.  Meanwhile, many of my liberal friends insist on trying to tell me how I should live my life and how I should think.  Needless to say I don't pay the latter liberals much mind.  :)

"Conservative" core beliefs include individual liberty, limited Constitutional government, free market economics, and Judeo-Christianity.  Frankly I see liberalism as largely based on superstitions.  For example many liberals believe that more government means more prosperity.  They can't tell you how big government should get; they just want more and more -- more spending, more programs, more regulations, more bureaucrats, more borrowing, more class-warfare taxes on the rich.  The U.S.  government has spent $14 trillion of borrowed money.  We now have unsustainable debt, high unemployment, a dollar becoming more worthless every day, rising prices, kids who are the laughing stock of the world in science and math,  the U.S. becoming a has-been nation, etc. etc.  Like Obama, liberalism destroys what it touches.  Freedom and prosperity are more important to me than gays in the military (I'm an honorably discharged veteran) and gay marriage.

Gay men should be liberal minded as our rights are not given proper. With all do respect @David Lewin, I see that you are white and male. For myself, i am native and have grown up in the ghetto. Have you? Have you been told that your language and your culture were attacked by the very government you live under? Have you been told that you come from a race that is dying and those that are not dead are illiterate, jail birds or poor?

I doubt you have experienced oppression becuase you helped oppress others. To actually articulate that women should NOT be liberal because their sex should not define them? Seriously, I mean, seriously, ask yourself: If I were a women raped and got pregnant, would I not want abortion to be an option? If I were black and my white friends felt that I was slower becuase how I spoke, would I not want feel angry by this stereotype?

As I read your comment a few months ago, I was absorbed in school work and could not bring myself to answer proper. But now I have that time luxury - I believe that what I read was a conservative thinker who comments on the flaws of thinkers yet resides in content knowing that as long you do not say anything uncomfortable, you are going to be ok. A bit selfish, I would think.

Political parties are one thing, to think a certain way is another.

Now to answer the other new comment - for Jim Soxman:

I appreciate your honest opinion and how much more tactful your opinion was. As I read this, it occured to me how dichotomically ideas are in the US. My understanding has been growing about US politics and the recurring themes that are presented is that you are either left or right. What happened to other ways of thinking? I am curently a supporter of a party that believes in control of big businesses and raising minimum wage. I approve of a party that wishes to grant Aboriginal self governance that will not only provide the land that is rightly for First Nations (as noted in the Royal Proclomation of the 1700's) but also more economic infrastructure. It also believes in decentralization of power and wealth, that is, disapproving of the Wal Marts and Nikes of the world.

From my understanding, it was normal to get a credit card by just signing up. In Canada, I had to go a see a financial advisor, I had to prove that I can pay it back, I had to go to a few meetings and I had to prove to them that when I got my credit card, I can handle the responsibility.

In the US, I saw a doc called "Maxed Out" that talked about the exploitation of students at universities and how it was amazing easy and fast to get not one but up to twelve credit cards.

Financial responsibility seems to be missing in America and the self interested groups involved have done a good job or avoiding having any other political parties in the House of Commons (Is that what it's called?)

My vote goes to the third largest political party that protects people from being taxed heavily and moves it onto big businesses. I think the US may emerge with a radical party like that? Just not the Tea Party, they just want to create a new fascist regime that Italy had with Mussollini.
